According to a report by the South African Police Service Office of the Provincial Commissioner in the Eastern Cape, a 32-year-old man appeared in the Butterworth magistrate’s court on Monday, the 24th of April 2023 on charges of unlawful possession of a human tissue.
It is alleged that the suspect was arrested by members of the public, after they allegedly found him in possession of a male body part at a shopping mall in Butterworth on Thursday afternoon, 20 April 2023. It is believed that he was looking for a ‘buyer’ in Butterworth.
Preliminary investigation by the South African Police Services in the Eastern Cape have revealed that the private part was removed (cut) from a 68-year-old man in OR Tambo District, who said to be currently in hospital.
The suspect will be transferred to Mthatha, where he is expected to face a charge of attempted murder.
According to the report, Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Nomthetheleli Mene has praised the community for arresting the suspect.
” This is a despicable and cruel act. The actions of the suspect is inhumane and justice must take it’s course”, added Lt General Mene.
