The Health Department is acting against circulating information which claims that O.R and Adelaide Tambo Regional Hospital, Mbizana is devoid of doctors. In response to this malicious rumor, the Department has launched an investigation to identify the source of the misleading document.

“This is nothing but fake news,” stated Siyanda Manana, the Department of Health spokesperson. “We want to make it clear that there are 16 qualified doctors currently serving at the hospital, and there will never be a day without medical staff on duty.”

The official announcement comes as a reassurance to the Mbizana community, which relies on the hospital for essential healthcare services. The Department emphasized their commitment to providing quality care, debunking the unfounded claims that have caused anxiety among residents.

Looking ahead, the Department is preparing for the hospital’s transition into a regional facility. To facilitate this, they have been actively recruiting additional medical officers, with new hires set to begin work as of February 1, 2025.

Considering these developments, the Department is urging the public to refrain from sharing the false document, as it only contributes to unnecessary panic and reputational harm. “We urge the community to trust verified sources of information and disregard misleading claims,” Manana added.

The Eastern Cape Department of Health has promised that the needs of the Mbizana community are met while holding those responsible for disseminating malicious information accountable.
