Eastern Cape Social Development MEC Bukiwe Fanta, also acting as Health MEC, visited Frere Hospital in East London on 1 January 2026.
The visit marked the birth of the province’s first New Year babies.
Fanta congratulated the families and praised healthcare workers for their dedication during the festive season.
She also called for stronger support for mothers, especially first-time and young mothers.
