Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane visited Taylor Bequest Hospital in Matatiele on 1 January 2026 to celebrate the arrival of New Year babies.
He was joined by Alfred Nzo District Municipality Executive Mayor Councillor Nomasomi Mshuqwana and Matatiele Local Municipality Mayor Councillor Patrick Stuurman.
The delegation congratulated families and handed out hampers containing baby essentials to 20 newborns.
Support for rural health services
Premier Mabuyane said the visit reflected the province’s commitment to improving maternal healthcare, especially in rural communities.
“Every child is a gift, and we celebrate their potential,” he said.
Mayor Mshuqwana added that the event showed the municipality’s continued focus on community welfare.
