At least 40 motorists were arrested in Ezakheni during a night-time law enforcement operation led by the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), the KZN Department of Transport confirmed on 1 January 2026.
The arrests were part of the #NenzaniLaEzweni campaign and included 21 new arrests for drunk driving.
Who was arrested
According to MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma, the latest arrests included:
- 1 soldier
- 2 bodyguards
- 4 taxi drivers transporting passengers
These arrests bring the total number of drunk driving cases in Ezakheni to 61.

The #NenzaniLaEzweni campaign targets reckless and illegal driving over the holiday period.
Law enforcement teams have been conducting roadblocks and random checks across KwaZulu-Natal.
