The M Tournament Postponed Due to Stadium Unavailability

Date:

In a disappointing turn of events, The M Tournament’s highly anticipated July U/21 edition has been postponed. The decision came after organizers discovered that the Mphuthumi Mafumbatha Stadium in Bizana would not be available due to ongoing construction works, specifically the installation of the running track.

The tournament, initially scheduled for the weekend of 08-09 July 2023, was set to showcase the skills of 60 teams over two days of intense soccer action. However, the persistent issue of stadium availability has marred the planning process. The municipality had originally assured organizers that the stadium would be ready and accessible by October 2022. Even during the provincial play-offs hosted by the LFA, the contractor had to temporarily vacate the site to accommodate the event.

The decision to postpone The M Tournament was not taken lightly, but the organizers’ primary concern is to ensure a tournament of the highest standard for all football clubs, sponsors, and stakeholders. “We understand the disappointment this news brings, but our commitment to delivering a remarkable tournament remains steadfast,” stated the organizers. They are actively engaging with sponsors and relevant stakeholders to determine a new date for the event. Once confirmed, the revised date will be promptly communicated, and all teams will be invited to rejoin the competition.

Among the teams scheduled to participate were notable names such as Mamelodi Sundowns FC, JDR Stars FC, and Chippa United FC. The tournament had also attracted media attention, with prominent outlets like Kick Off Magazine, Vision View, and Love PSL confirming their presence to cover the event.

The organizers express their sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused by the postponement. Their dedication to delivering rural football at its highest level remains unwavering. At present, maintenance work is prioritized to ensure the stadium meets the required standards. Simultaneously, the organizers are exploring ways to enhance the overall experience of the tournament for the Bizana community.
