Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has officially named his final squad for South Africa’s upcoming international friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique. The matches will take place on 6 June 2025 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane and on 10 June 2025 against Mozambique, respectively.
The squad will assemble in Johannesburg on Sunday, 1 June, before heading to Limpopo the same day. Notably, Mamelodi Sundowns players have been excluded from selection as they are set to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States from 14 June to 13 July 2025.
Broos praised the recent resurgence in South African football across all levels. “These are glory days for South African football,” he said. “From the U15s to Bafana Bafana, the results speak for themselves.”
Indeed, South Africa’s youth teams have excelled:
- U15 Girls and Boys are COSAFA champions, with the girls also earning bronze at the CAF African Schools Championship in Ghana.
- Amajimbos (U17s) qualified for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar this November.
- Amajita (U20s) are the African champions and will compete at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile in September.
- Banyana Banyana are preparing to defend their title at the 2025 Women’s AFCON in Morocco.
- Bafana Bafana have qualified for AFCON 2025, are leading 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and will compete in the CHAN 2025 tournament in East Africa.
Broos, however, cautioned against complacency, warning that without proper follow-through and support from the South African Football Federation, this golden period may fade.
“If we are only happy now, in 2-3 years this may be gone. We must build continuity,” he said.
