Following a comprehensive preparation camp and a series of intense training sessions, Mdaka expressed optimism about the squad’s readiness for the highly anticipated clash set for Saturday, 3 May 2025, at the Cairo International Stadium.

Mdaka acknowledged the challenge of facing the host nation in the first game, but emphasized that the team remains positive and determined to deliver a strong performance. “Playing against the host is never easy, but we have prepared well, and the players understand the importance of a good start,” he said.

The U20 AFCON tournament serves as both a prestigious continental competition and a qualifying event for the FIFA U20 World Cup. South Africa will be aiming to secure one of the top four spots to earn a ticket to the global showpiece.

Mdaka and his technical team have focused on fine-tuning tactical formations, improving match fitness, and fostering team chemistry in the lead-up to the tournament. He also praised the players’ commitment and work ethic during the preparations.

Supporters back home are hopeful that the U20 squad, known for producing future Bafana Bafana stars, will make a strong impression against Egypt and set the tone for a successful tournament campaign.
