A local tavern owner is among four suspects who were arrested for the murder of two people in Bityi.

On Saturday, 07 October 2023, SAPS Bityi detectives were investigating a missing person inquiry when investigations led them to a local tavern owner, who took them to the dongas in Nqwathi Location.

Detectives found the burnt out bodies of two males, aged 28 and 30. Their identities are known but will be released on completion of the identification process.

It is alleged that the two victims were involved in the theft of liquor from a local tavern last week.

A total of four suspects aged between 28 and 65 were arrested and appeared in the Bityi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 09 October 2023, on a  charge of murder (two counts).
