The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal joined the Department of Social Development for a community outreach programme in Bergville, held at the Mazazini Traditional Court. The event aimed at empowering women with access to social and economic opportunities to help build sustainable livelihoods.

The gathering brought together a wide range of partners, including the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Department of Health, Department of Correctional Services, Department of Economic Development, Tourism & Traditional Affairs, SAPS-Ladysmith/Bergville, Legal Aid South Africa, and several private companies.

Speaking on behalf of the NPA, M Zandile Mthembu engaged the community on critical issues such as gender-based violence, sexual offences, protection orders, the Protection from Harassment Act, and maintenance processes. The presentation aimed to provide women with practical information and resources to safeguard their rights and strengthen community awareness.

Community members welcomed the initiative, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to interact directly with government agencies and stakeholders on matters affecting their daily lives. The outreach underscored the value of collaborative efforts in addressing social challenges and empowering women across KwaZulu-Natal.
