The National Prosecuting Authority has confirmed that seven people who appeared in court on Wednesday are linked to the gang rape that happened in Krugersdorp.
They have been charged with multiple counts of rape, robbery and being in the country illegally.
Eight women were gang raped two weeks ago while filming a music video in an abandoned mine in Krugersdorp on Johannesburg’s West Rand in.
NPA spokesperson Phindile Mjonondwane said seven other suspects, who are also linked to gang rape, are expected to appear in court on Thursday. She added that more arrests are possible.
“We expect them to appear first at the magistrate’s court in Randfontein where they will face the charges of contravening the immigration act.
“Once they have appeared there they will be taken to the Krugersdorp court where they will be added to the seven accused who are facing the same charges of rape, sexual abuse and robbery with atrocious circumstances.” said Mjonondwane
