MEC Williams has urged communities to remain vigilant and prioritize safety during this period of severe weather.

“The province has recently experienced snow and cold fronts as predicted by SAWS. We are advising residents to stay informed through the media and closely follow weather warnings to ensure their safety,” said Williams.

He emphasized that the department is actively monitoring the situation and will respond swiftly to any emergencies that pose a threat to lives. “We urge motorists to drive cautiously, as road conditions may become slippery and dangerous. Residents must also stay in touch with municipal disaster management officials to minimize potential risks,” he added.

Both the Provincial and Local Disaster Management teams are on standby, prepared to provide assistance to affected communities. Further announcements, including possible road closures, will be made through various media outlets.

Williams also urged residents to delay non-essential travel or seek alternative routes until it is safe. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility,” he stressed.

In the event of flooding or other emergencies, residents are encouraged to contact the Disaster Management Centre’s toll-free number: 0800 202 507 for immediate assistance.
