The Matatiele Local Municipality, working in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, hosted a strategic engagement session with key stakeholders from the arts, sports, recreation and cultural sectors.

The purpose of the dialogue was to strengthen partnerships and close existing gaps between the department and its stakeholders, with a focus on ensuring effective coordination and sustainable development in the municipality.

District Director, Ms. Mbedu, underscored the importance of bridging these gaps, noting that stronger collaboration is vital for improved service delivery and sector growth. She emphasized that by aligning efforts, stakeholders can achieve meaningful progress that benefits communities.

Adding his voice to the session, author Mxolisi Mgitywa applauded the initiative, particularly as it takes place during Heritage Month. He stressed the urgent need to preserve indigenous languages and cultural practices that are at risk of being lost, warning that failure to act could mean losing key parts of South Africa’s identity.
