Port St Johns Local Municipality, led by Mayor CS Mazuza, has officially handed over the contractor for the Mhlazana Access Road at Bhakaleni JSS in Ward 17. The project is designed to improve community access to the area while also boosting local economic activity through job creation and business opportunities.
The development will open employment for both skilled and unskilled laborers while involving two small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in its implementation. Beyond jobs, the initiative will also bring direct financial benefits to local residents. Workers employed by the contractor will receive accommodation, and community members providing site rentals will earn additional income from the project.
During the handover ceremony, Ward 17 Councillor, Mafaka, called on residents to safeguard the contractor’s machinery, vehicles, and resources. He stressed that community cooperation is essential to ensure the road is completed on time and to the required standard.
The Mhlazana Access Road project reflects the municipality’s commitment to improving infrastructure while supporting local livelihoods. Once completed, the road is expected to make travel safer and easier for residents, particularly learners and families in Bhakaleni.
