King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. G.N. Nelani, handed over ward-based equipment to several communities during a gathering held at Mthatha Stadium on Wednesday morning. The initiative aims to strengthen local programmes, support social cohesion, and improve service delivery across KSD.
What Happened
The handover included tools, furniture, early childhood development materials, and sports kits. Each ward received equipment based on its needs and ongoing community projects. Residents and ward representatives welcomed the support, noting that the new resources would help revive local initiatives.
Equipment allocation included:
- Wards 33, 37, 10, 20: Chairs and tables
- Wards 1, 3, 6: Grass-cutting machines, hedge trimmers, and chainsaws
- Wards 7, 28, 26: Early childhood material, chairs, tables, toys, and mattresses
- Wards 26, 33, 20, 15, 10: Sports kits
Official Response
Mayor Nelani said the intervention would bring communities together and improve programmes already active at ward level.
“These resources will strengthen social unity and uplift our communities. We want every ward to feel supported so that local activities can thrive,” he said.
Municipal officials added that more wards will be included in future allocations as funding becomes available.
Community Impact
The equipment is expected to boost ward committees, early childhood centres, and sports groups. Many residents said the support arrives at a crucial time, especially as youth and community programmes continue to grow. The tools and materials are also expected to reduce service delivery pressures and improve local productivity.
