The Department of Home Affairs has dismissed 18 officials for various offenses, including fraud, corruption, and sexual harassment on the 20th of November 2024. This action underscores the department’s intensified commitment to combatting wrongdoing within its ranks.
The dismissed officials faced serious allegations, ranging from the irregular granting of ID documents and the improper solemnization and registration of marriages to the approval of fraudulent visa applications and the mishandling of birth certificates. Notably, one official was dismissed for sexual harassment, reinforcing the department’s zero-tolerance policy toward such behavior.
Additionally, four officials received final written warnings—two facing one and three months of salary suspension, and two others receiving standard written warnings. These actions follow the completion of all mandated human resource processes and appeals for the affected individuals.
Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Leon Schreiber stressed that these dismissals send a clear message: “The days of committing fraud and corruption with impunity are over.” He thanked law enforcement agencies for their support and reiterated the department’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and delivering dignity to citizens.
