In a surprise move, Nyiko Floyd Shivambu, the Deputy President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has announced his resignation as a Member of Parliament and his decision not to renew his party membership.
In a letter to the EFF President, Shivambu cited his desire to unite progressive forces and work towards an agenda for revolutionary change as the reason for his departure. He emphasized that his decision is not a vote of no confidence in the organization, but rather a “revolutionary act” to advance the cause of economic emancipation.
However, in a shocking twist, Shivambu revealed during a media briefing in Johannesburg on Thursday that he would be joining former President Jacob Zuma’s MK party.
Shivambu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the EFF and acknowledged the party’s significant role in shaping South African politics. He assured the EFF leadership that he would not compromise the organization’s integrity and is available to discuss the details of his departure publicly.
“My non-renewal of EFF membership is not a vote of no confidence in the organization, but a revolutionary act to unite progressive forces and work towards a shared agenda,” Shivambu said.
EFF leader Julius Malema lamented the loss of a valuable party member, saying Shivambu’s departure would be deeply felt.
The EFF has yet to respond to Shivambu’s resignation, but his departure is likely to send shockwaves through the political landscape. Shivambu’s commitment to Marxist-Leninist ideology and economic emancipation remains unwavering, and his next move is eagerly anticipated.
