A 20-year-old woman from Mailaskop Village appeared briefly in the Tshitale Magistrates’ Court after being charged with the murder of her three-month-old daughter.

According to reports, Andisani Dephney Nthabalala allegedly ended the life of her baby by pressing her leg against the infant’s neck on 1 August 2025. Witnesses at the scene tried to get medical help immediately, but the baby was declared dead upon arrival at the local clinic.

Nthabalala is expected back in court on 12 August 2025. The case was postponed to give her time to arrange legal representation. She will stay in custody until her next appearance.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has expressed strong disapproval of violence against children and reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice
