Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) has officially handed over two contractors to accelerate the completion of the Fobane Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 in Matatiele Local Municipality. The project, valued at more than R88 million, is set to bring clean and reliable water to households across ten rural villages in Wards 15, 17, 23, and 24.

What Happened

The handover ceremony took place at Matolweni Almighty Gospel Church and Ramafole Community Hall. The two contractors will manage Phase 3 Contract 2 and Contract 3 of the Fobane Water Supply Scheme.

The scheme is expected to be completed within 18 months and will directly benefit rural communities that have long struggled with water shortages.


Official Response

The Alfred Nzo District Municipality emphasized that the project demonstrates its commitment to infrastructure development, job creation, and access to clean water.

A municipal spokesperson said:

“This handover is a decisive step towards ensuring that every household in our rural villages has access to clean and safe water. It is also about creating jobs and opening opportunities for small businesses.”

Close to 50 jobs will be created during the construction phase, with local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) expected to participate in the project.
