A 41-year-old man died after being stabbed with a broken beer bottle during an argument with his girlfriend outside a tavern in Hoopstad, Tikwana location. The incident happened on 22 November 2025, while police were on patrol.
What Happened
At about 01:10, police on patrol were alerted to a stabbing at a local tavern in Tikwana. Officers rushed to the scene and found the victim, a foreign national male, lying in a pool of blood near the gate. The 28-year-old woman accused of the attack was kneeling beside him, attempting to stop the bleeding. Emergency medical services were called, however the victim was declared dead on the scene.
According to police information, the couple argued inside the tavern before stepping outside. The fight escalated, and the woman allegedly broke a beer bottle and stabbed the man above his left shoulder.
The broken bottle was seized as evidence.
Official Response
Police confirmed that the suspect was arrested on the spot. She now faces a charge of murder and is expected to appear in the Hoopstad Magistrate’s Court, on 24 November 2025.
Authorities have condemned the incident, urging communities to resolve conflict without violence, especially during a period where the fight against GBVF remains a national priority.
