According to reports, four armed men arrived at the home of a 48-year-old man, posing as members of the National Intervention Unit. They forcibly removed the victim, claiming to be making an arrest, and took him to an undisclosed location.

Later that evening, the victim’s family received a ransom demand. Authorities were alerted, and an investigation was launched. Three days after the kidnapping, the victim reportedly escaped and was found unharmed at a chief’s homestead in Qumbu.

Following intelligence-driven leads, police tracked down the suspects to various locations in Mthatha, Qumbu, and Elliotdale, where they were arrested on 18 July. Investigators confirmed their involvement in planning and executing the kidnapping.

The court has postponed the matter to 28 July 2025 for a formal bail application. All three suspects remain in custody as the search continues for the fourth suspect.
