The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has issued a stern warning against an organisation named “Ubuntu Life” for unlawfully using its name, logo, and brand in a manner that misleads the public into believing it is associated with the agency.

SASSA clarified that it has no affiliation, endorsement, or contract with Ubuntu Life, describing the actions as illegal and a direct violation of South African trademark and fraud laws. The statement, dated 21 July 2025, emphasized the seriousness of misrepresenting government institutions to the public.

“SASSA does not outsource grant applications or beneficiary services to private companies such as Ubuntu Life or any other company,” said Chief Executive Officer Mr Themba Matlou.

Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

Matlou urged beneficiaries to verify all communications and avoid engaging with anyone claiming to operate on behalf of SASSA without official verification.

“Please exercise vigilance and verify the authenticity of such acts with SASSA before partaking in them,” he stressed.

He further reiterated that SASSA services are completely free and offered only by official, employed SASSA staff.

Legal Action Underway

SASSA’s legal team is now preparing formal legal action to protect the integrity of its services and beneficiaries, saying the misuse of its identity is a serious criminal offense.

If anyone has been approached or defrauded by Ubuntu Life or similar entities, they are encouraged to report it immediately to the South African Police Service or contact SASSA via:
