Families of the 18 victims killed in the Lusikisiki massacre have expressed frustration over continued delays in the high-profile murder trial.
Court proceedings, which were expected to continue at the Mthatha High Court sitting in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, were postponed to Wednesday after defence lawyers requested more time.
The postponement came after the State submitted an additional document containing further aspects of the case. One of the accused, Mzukisi Ndamase, who is representing himself, asked for time to review the new document. Lawyers representing the other five accused also requested an extension.
The six men on trial face multiple charges, including the murder of eighteen people, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, and robbery. The case has gripped the Lusikisiki community for months.
On Tuesday, the State was expected to begin leading evidence from its first witnesses. The latest delay has left relatives of the victims deeply concerned.
“We just want justice to be served without further delays,” one family member said outside the court.
The trial is now expected to resume on Wednesday, when the State will begin presenting evidence.
