Morolong Launches Modern Broadcast Studios at Tshwane Campuses

• Unveiling of Digitised Broadcast Studios at TUT Campus Radio Stations: The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Mr. Kenny Morolong, will participate in the official unveiling of fully digitised studios at TUT FM 96.2 and Tshwane FM, marking a significant advancement in community media infrastructure.
• Focus on Youth and Multilingual Broadcasting: Both stations, located at Tshwane University of Technology, serve the youth demographic and promote multilingual broadcasting, with TUT FM reaching over 61,000 listeners in various local languages.
• Community Reach and Audience Engagement: TUT FM 96.2 targets listeners within a 50km radius and focuses on youth aged 15-35, while Tshwane FM extends its reach across Greater Tshwane, including multiple suburbs, providing localized content.

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Mr Kenny Morolong, will join the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) Board on Friday, 8 August, to officially unveil fully digitised broadcast studios at two campus-based radio stations: TUT FM 96.2 and Tshwane FM.

The unveiling represents a major step in the MDDA’s drive to improve community media infrastructure and expand access to reliable, diverse local content. Both stations are based at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and play a key role in youth media development and multilingual broadcasting in Gauteng.

TUT FM 96.2, is based at the Soshanguve South Campus, reaches over 61,000 listeners within a 50km radius. It caters primarily to youth between the ages of 15 and 35, offering content in English, Setswana, Sepedi, isiZulu, Tshivenda and Xitsonga.

Tshwane FM, broadcasting on 93.6 FM, serves as the university’s official student station. Its signal reaches listeners in the Greater Tshwane region, including Atteridgeville, Laudium, Mamelodi, Centurion, Midrand, and parts of northern Johannesburg.

The digitised upgrades are expected to enhance production quality, support student learning, and improve the stations’ ability to serve communities with informative, culturally relevant content. The investment also reflects the MDDA’s commitment to nurturing local broadcasting talent and modernising media platforms across the country.
