KwaZulu-Natal police arrested 38 motorists for drunk driving in Margate, Port Shepstone, on the night of 26 December 2025. Among them was a 74-year-old driver, according to a 5am report received by MEC Siboniso Duma.

The arrests were part of the ongoing #NenzaniLaEzweni road safety operation, which has led to over 2,600 arrests across the province since 15 August 2025.

What Happened

  • 38 motorists arrested in Margate
  • One of them was a 74-year-old driver
  • Arrests also made in Newcastle and Groutville
  • In Newcastle, a police officer, firefighter, paramedic, and two teachers were among the 32 arrested
  • Groutville recorded another 32 arrests, with the oldest driver being 65

Official Response

MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma praised the dedication of Road Traffic Inspectorate teams, saying:

“The level of commitment displayed by our highly energised team is unmatched. We will sustain the #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation until Easter and beyond.”
