AmaZulu faced a setback as they were defeated 3-1 by Cape Town Spurs in a DStv Premiership showdown at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening.

The loss caused Usuthu to slide down one spot on the league standings to ninth. In their first match since the break due to the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, AmaZulu struggled to find their footing.

Chumani Butsaka netted the first goal for the home team in the 15th minute, but Abbubaker Mobara equalized for Usuthu in the 31st minute. Despite goalkeeper Olwethu Mzimela’s heroics in saving a penalty, Cape Town Spurs’ Ashley Cupido scored twice in the second half as a substitute, securing a 3-1 victory. Despite holding more possession and boasting better passing accuracy, Usuthu’s inability to capitalize on chances led to their defeat.
