Menzi Masuku has completed a shock overseas move to Al-Shabab Club in Bahrain.
The 32-year-old resurfaced abroad months after leaving Golden Arrows.
His transfer was confirmed on 16 November 2025 by club sources in Bahrain.
What Happened?
Masuku, who featured for Bafana Bafana at CHAN early this year, has joined Al-Shabab after several months without a club.
The skilful midfielder began training with his new teammates and is expected to be registered before the league resumes.
His career spans more than a decade in the South African top-flight.
He previously played for:
- Mpumalanga Black Aces
- Roses United
- Jomo Cosmos
- Orlando Pirates
- Chippa United
- Bloemfontein Celtic
- Royal AM
- Golden Arrows
Masuku earned national praise after scoring twice on his starting debut for Orlando Pirates.
He later represented South Africa at the 2015 U23 AFCON and qualified for the Rio Olympics under coach Owen da Gama.
Speaking from Bahrain, a source close to the player said,
“Menzi wanted a fresh challenge. Al-Shabab offered him a clear role and stability.”
Official Response
Al-Shabab officials have not issued a full statement.
However, the club confirmed the signing in internal communications shared with local media.
A former Arrows teammate said Masuku deserved the move:
“He is disciplined and still hungry. This is a good step for him.”
Community Impact
Masuku remains a popular figure among KZN and Gauteng supporters.
His move adds another South African player to the growing list competing in the Middle East leagues.
Local analysts say the transfer could inspire younger midfielders who followed his journey through the Pirates’ reserve ranks.
In addition, coaches believe his international experience will strengthen Al-Shabab’s attacking structure.
