In a dramatic conclusion to their 2023 campaign, Orlando Pirates faced a surprising setback at home, succumbing to a 3-2 defeat against Stellenbosch in a fiercely contested DStv Premiership encounter on Friday night.
The hosts initially seized control, hoping to capitalize on their opponent’s potential rustiness after nearly two weeks without a game. Despite early dominance, Orlando Pirates could only muster a couple of half-chances in the opening minutes, with Evidence Makgopa and Karim Kimvuidi narrowly missing the mark.
Stellenbosch gradually found their rhythm and drew a save from Bucs keeper Melusi Buthelezi through Devin Titus’ powerful long-range effort.
