The “Not Pregnant” campaign, founded by Nandile Madikizela, aims to reduce teenage pregnancies and promote education as a top priority. Operating under the Qhakaza Kukhanye Foundation, the campaign launched on April 26, 2024, at Nomagqwathekana Com-Tech, an after-school program that supports learners in achieving academic success and overall well-being.
The launch event brought together 162 grade ten students, stakeholders from the Health department, communicable diseases (Winnie Madikizela Mandela local municiplaityWMMLM), the department of social development, a psychologist, and parents for an informative session on preventing early pregnancies.
Madikizela shared her motivation for starting the campaign, citing the devastating impact of teenage pregnancy on learners.
She emphasized the importance of involving parents in these conversations, as they need to learn how to create a safe space for their children and engage in open discussions about sex education and pregnancy prevention.
Parent and attendee, Mr. Mpengiso, encouraged learners to pace themselves and prioritize education, emphasizing that it is the key to achieving their dreams and avoiding rushed decisions that may have long-lasting consequences.
The “Not Pregnant” campaign is a vital initiative that tackles the pressing issue of teenage pregnancy and promotes education as a top priority. By empowering young people with knowledge and support, we can help them achieve their full potential and create a brighter future.
