South African Weather Service issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms leading to heavy downpours in parts of the Northern Cape, North West, Free State, and Eastern Cape on Friday, the 8th of October 2024.

A Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging waves affecting coastal routes between Plettenberg Bay and Coffee Bay.

Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, hail and strong damaging winds are expected over the extreme eastern parts of the Northern Cape, western parts of the North West, most parts of the Free State except in the north and the north and eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

Damaging waves are expected between Plettenberg Bay and Coffee Bay, affecting coastal routes, sea fronts, and coastal communities with spray and/or large waves. These conditions may result in damage to property and infrastructure, major travel disruptions, and disruptions of municipal and other essential services.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the north-eastern parts of the Western Cape and the central parts of the Northern Cape.
