The Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality has strengthened its weekly “war room” meetings in Mbizana as part of efforts to improve service delivery and respond faster to community concerns.
The sessions, held every Monday, bring together councillors, Community Development Workers (CDWs) and multiple government departments to deal directly with pressing local issues.
The war room approach was introduced by government to ensure that different departments work in one coordinated space, allowing quicker responses to development challenges and service delivery gaps affecting communities.
Mayor TD Mafumbatha has re-emphasised the importance of these meetings, calling for accountability and improved responsiveness from departments serving local residents.
Recent meetings have included officials from Alfred Nzo District Municipality, responsible for water and sanitation services, the Department of Human Settlements, which oversees housing delivery, and the Department of Transport, which manages major road infrastructure.
For residents in Mbizana, the renewed focus on war rooms is expected to improve coordination between departments and speed up access to essential services.
