The University of Fort Hare’s Department of Psychology, Social Work and Criminology held a ceremony at its East London Campus to thank organisations that support Work-Integrated Learning (WIL). These partners help UFH bridge classroom theory with real community impact.
Why does the recognition matter?
Social work sits at the heart of community well-being, social justice, and human dignity. UFH said its WIL partners — including NGOs, welfare agencies, government departments, and community organisations — provide essential training environments where students develop practical skills.
Fieldwork Coordinator Dr Brenda Mandlazi said the long-standing partnerships demonstrate a deep commitment to the profession.
“These partners consistently open their workspaces, share their expertise and stretch their capacities to mentor UFH Social Work students,” she said.
“Their dedication reflects the values at the heart of social work — compassion, advocacy, and service. For that, we honour you,” she added.
Industry-Ready Graduates
Dr Mandlazi added that the partnerships strengthen UFH’s mission to produce graduates who are academically prepared, ethically grounded, and able to contribute from their first day in the field.
She said the ceremony was the department’s “resounding message of gratitude” to organisations that continue to shape social work education across the province.
