According to Sunday World, the singer died on Tuesday at her home after a brief illness.

The outlet reports that her daughter, Rethabile, reached out to media personality Sabelo “Ntombeningi” Sithole to rush to Winnie’s house, as she was unresponsive.

However, upon arrival, she had already passed away.

“I was contacted by Rethabile, and I could hear from her voice that she was not okay. She asked me to rush to her mother’s house because Winnie was not moving. I rushed there, and unfortunately, it was too late. I am distraught, and I have lost a friend,” he told the outlet.

Winnie who had an illustrious music career spanning decades, started her music career at the age of 15. Having been introduced to the scene by Brenda Fassie, she did not look back.
