The SAPS New Brighton Women’s Network, in partnership with the Community Policing Forum, Safety Brigades, and the Department of Health, successfully conducted Operation Basadi to combat gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) in New Brighton.

Background

Operation Basadi, held across several areas including Sheya Kulati Complex, Ferguson Road, and Dubu Road, aimed to raise awareness about the protection of women and children while promoting a culture of respect and safety.


Key Moments of the Operation

Under the leadership of Lt Colonel Moraba, the campaign featured pamphlet distribution at Spar Sheya Kulati Complex and foot patrols in Dubu Road. The pamphlets provided vital information on sexual offences, emergency contacts for the New Brighton Police Station, and guidance on ending GBVF.

The Department of Health, represented by staff from Mpilweni Clinic, supported the initiative by offering health services, women empowerment sessions, and awareness programmes for community members.
