The video clip shows members of the army throwing dead bodies in a pile of burning rubble, in the clip some soldiers are seen to be taking videos of the incident.

The incident is believed to have taken place in Mozambique back in November 2022. In  a media statement released on the 10th of January 2023, the SANDF did not deny it’s involvement in the burning of bodies however, they stated that the soldiers were not under SANDF’s command or authority as they have, in that time committed forces as part of the SADC mission in Mozambique (SAMIM)

The media statement suggested that once the soldiers of the SANDF have committed, they form part of a combined force and fall under the command and control of the SAMIM and South Africa only supports the mission logistically.

It is said that the force commander of SAMIM is conducting an investigation surrounding the involvement of its members in the despicable act.
