The police ministry applauded the detective work of the South African Police Services (SAPS ) that led to the arrest of a suspect, who is believed to be involved in the mass shooting in KwaZakhele in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

According to reports that were issued by the police, two armed men entered and disrupted a birthday celebration in Makanda Street in KwaZakhele on the 29th of January 2023. These suspects allegedly opened fire onto the guests, shooting eleven people. The shots left three guests sustaining serious injuries and eight dead.

Through the leadership of provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, Eastern Cape SAPS launched a manhunt for the suspects at they investigated eight (8) cases of murder and three (3) cases of attempted murder.

Police are now currently in pursuit of more suspects as they believe there could be more involved in the brutal mass shooting that shocked the community and the country.

The police ministry is encouraged by the arrests which demonstrate the sharpness of police investigative and intelligence efforts which continue to pursuit justice at all times.
