The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is taking part in the 18th Annual Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Conference, held at the Sandton Convention Centre. The three-day event, which began on the 17 of September, brings together more than 1 000 anti-fraud professionals from around the world, making it Africa’s largest anti-fraud networking platform.
WHAT HAPPENED
Senior Public Prosecutor Rosheila Benimadho from the KwaZulu-Natal Division addressed the conference with a presentation on online scams, which have caused major financial losses to individuals and businesses. She explained how international criminal networks operate, using fake emails, messages, and digital currency channels to defraud victims.
Benimadho urged businesses to strengthen email security, adopt identity verification measures, protect sensitive data, train staff, and make use of legal tools to trace cybercriminals. She also called for tougher action against money mules and greater compliance with new cyber safety laws.

“Online fraud is not just a threat to businesses, but to ordinary people who lose their savings. Stronger collaboration and compliance are key to stopping these crimes,” Benimadho said.
Meanwhile, Senior State Advocates Elivera Dreyer and Ndiitwani Mutangwa, along with Deputy Director for Human Resources Development Themba Mnguni, represented the NPA in the exhibition hall. They showcased the organisation’s training, services, and justice initiatives, raising awareness among delegates.
