Matatiele Local Municipality (MLM) Mayor, Cllr. Sonwabile Mngenela joined by Members of the Executive Committee will from Thursday, the 11th to the 12th of April 2024 handover contractors for One Thousand Three Hundred and Sixty-Eight (1368) RDP houses in various wards of the Municipality.
The Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements approved MLM as an Implementing Agent for Housing Development in Matatiele on the 13th of October 2022 and as such about five projects are being implemented from June 2023 at Mehloloaneng, Mafube, Pote, Maluti and Tsitsong.
Phase 2 of the contractor handovers will see an amount of more than R250 million being invested in Ward 01, 02, 09, 13, 18 and 27. The construction of decent households is an important step in the Government’s commitment to provide decent and affordable housing to disadvantaged, deserving citizens.
These projects to be handed over include: Mahareng (250), Mphotshongweni (250), Maritseng (416), Nyaniso (250), Mehloloaneng (202).
These units will include two bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, VIP toilets and a tank. Child headed families, persons with disabilities and military veterans will be prioritized as per the approved beneficiary list.
