Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, has arrived in The Hague to co-chair the Fourth Biennial Joint Cooperation Commission (JCC). The meeting will be held with Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Caspar Veldkamp. The aim of this meeting is to maintain a strong and enduring partnership between South Africa and the Netherlands.
The JCC acts as a foundation for bilateral relations, facilitating collaboration in areas crucial for sustainable development and inclusive growth. This year’s discussions focus on key sectors such as agriculture, water and waste management, and energy security, emphasizing both nations’ commitment to climate resilience and food sustainability.
In addition to agricultural issues, the agenda includes vital topics like cyber-security, digital innovation, trade and investment, and advancements in higher education and science. Minister Lamola noted the importance of technology and knowledge exchange in fostering economic progress. “Our collaboration transcends traditional diplomacy, embracing pragmatic solutions to global challenges,” he stated.
The Commission also aims to enhance partnerships in arts and culture, strengthening connections between citizens of the two countries. Furthermore, environmental issues remain a priority, with joint initiatives designed to protect ecosystems and promote green transitions.
Minister Lamola expressed his optimism about the outcomes of the JCC, expecting actionable frameworks to boost bilateral cooperation. Both South Africa and the Netherlands are dedicated to keep this partnership for the benefit of their citizens, reaffirming their resolve to pursue a future characterized by equity, innovation, and shared prosperity.
