Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Honorable Ronald Lamola on Monday at Modderbee Correctional Centre in Benoni Gauteng welcomed 1068 fully fledged Correctional Officers after completing programs of learnership.

This was virtual address whereby he had to be connected with all provinces and their management areas through virtual meeting. This was done with the aim of adhering to COVID-19 protocols that is rattling and bringing the world to its knees.

“It is the important day in Department of Correctional Services whereby new cadres will be operating in new environment. You will infuse new energy; always learn and train. It is not the end of the world continue studying; I will be happy that in 5 years’ time, you emerge Correctional Officers with Masters; Honours and Doctorates. We don’t want people who will be resting in their laurels” said Lamola.

He emphasized that they must commit to being ethical and make sure that they are not part of those who would be corrupt and must be known as positive ambassadors of Department of Correctional Services.

Kokstad Management Area which comprises of 5 Correctional Centres Matatiele; Ebongweni C-Max; Kokstad Medium; Port Shepstone and Umzimkhulu Correctional Centre had pleasure 88 fully fledged Correctional Centre.

The Acting Area Commissioner Chaplain Viwe Lokwe was very happy to have these new Correctional Officers. ” We hope that you will be agents of change and assist us in rehabilitation of offenders” said Lokwe.
