Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga, in her capacity as Acting Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, has welcomed the appointment of the new board of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).
The announcement, made on 23 July 2025, follows Cabinet’s approval of seven individuals to serve on the NYDA board. The new board members will be responsible for advancing the agency’s youth empowerment mandate, including job creation, entrepreneurship, education, and leadership development.
“This appointment marks a significant step in accelerating youth development at a national level. We believe the board has the experience and vision to make a real impact,” said Minister Chikunga.
Who Is on the New NYDA Board?
The seven newly appointed board members are:
- Asanda Luwaca (Chairperson)
- Zuko Godlimpi
- Thulisa Ndlela
- Lungile Ndlovu
- Sibusiso Mpanza
- Didi Mampuru
- Njabulo Mthembu
The board’s term officially begins in August 2025 and runs for five years, during which they are expected to drive high-impact programmes that tackle youth unemployment and skills development.
Youth-Led Development in Focus
The NYDA is a strategic public institution established to champion youth development initiatives across South Africa. It works with government departments, civil society, and private partners to deliver:
- Youth entrepreneurship funding and support
- Leadership development and training
- Skills development for job readiness
- Advocacy on youth-related policy issues
Minister Chikunga expressed full confidence in the newly appointed board’s ability to implement bold and transformative youth programmes, aligned with the goals of the National Youth Policy 2030.
“We are counting on this board to be agile, accountable, and bold in delivering results that change the lives of young people,” she said.
A Call to Action for the Youth
The Department urged young South Africans to engage with the NYDA and make use of the platforms available to them — whether it be for funding, training, or national volunteer programmes.
“This is a new chapter. Let us work together to empower the youth of our nation,” Chikunga concluded.
