MEC Capa to Launch R184 Million Rebuild of Greenville Hospital in Mbizana

Eastern Cape MEC for Health, Ntandokazi Capa, on the 06 of May, will officially hand over the construction site for the rebuilding of Greenville Hospital, marking a major investment in healthcare infrastructure for rural communities in the province.

The handover ceremony is scheduled to begin at 08h00 at Greenville Hospital, located in Mbizana, and will be attended by senior officials from the Eastern Cape Department of Health.

The redevelopment of the hospital is valued at R184 million and aims to enhance the quality and accessibility of medical services for underserved and indigent populations in the region.

Key Features of the Project

The scope of work includes the construction of:

• A Core Block with Male, Female, Paediatric, and Infectious Disease Wards
• Administration and service areas
• New staff housing units
• Demolition of dilapidated structures

Once complete, the upgraded Greenville Hospital will be equipped to deliver emergency care, maternal health services, and chronic disease management as part of a fully integrated healthcare model.

According to MEC Capa, the project is a strategic response to the increasing demand for public healthcare services in Mbizana and surrounding areas.

“We are committed to ensuring that residents in rural towns like Mbizana have access to quality, modern healthcare services. This project is a bold step toward that vision,” said Capa.

The department has positioned the Greenville Hospital redevelopment as part of its broader effort to upgrade ageing facilities and improve functional efficiency across the province’s health system.
