KwaZulu-Natal police arrested 12,624 suspects in July 2025 during a province-wide crackdown on serious and violent crimes, road offences, and illegal firearms.

Among these arrests, 3,741 were linked to contact crimes, including 216 suspects for murder and 201 for attempted murder. Police also removed 331 firearms and 16,178 rounds of ammunition from circulation, significantly disrupting criminal activity.

A major focus was on gender-based violence and crimes against children. Police arrested 193 suspects for rape, 50 for sexual assault, 8 for attempted rape, and 17 for other sexual offences. An additional 204 arrests were made under the Domestic Violence Act, and 4 suspects were charged with child abuse.

Robbery cases also featured prominently. 201 suspects were arrested for various robberies, including business, house, and vehicle-related incidents. Assaults accounted for large numbers, with 1,720 suspects arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and 925 for common assault.

On the roads, 519 motorists were caught driving under the influence, while 2,108 suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes. In rural areas, 48 suspects were arrested for stock theft, and police recovered 70 cattle and 77 goats.


The operations also saw the seizure of 610 dangerous weapons, including 536 knives and 36 machetes.
