It has been reported that an off-duty police sergeant from New Brighton was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon and the wounding of her husband. Gqeberha police are believed to be conducting an investigation into the incident.

Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu alleges that the 40-year old Sergeant and her husband returned home from a nearby shop, and when parking their VW Polo in the yard in NU 8 in Motherwell, an unknown man approached and subsequently fired shots at them.

She says the husband was wounded in the shoulder and upper body, while the Sergeant was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

Her husband was taken to the hospital.

According to Col Naidu, the suspects fled in a vehicle that was parked in the street and drove off. The motive for the shootings is unknown and police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.
