Under the scrutiny of an independent body, these individuals underwent comprehensive training comprising theoretical modules, practical exercises, and the development of a robust portfolio of evidence. Having demonstrated their proficiency, the DCS welcomed them into its ranks, acknowledging their prior service under contract following the completion of the Learnership programme.

Siphokazi Mazwi, Acting Area Commissioner of the Kokstad Management Area, emphasized the significance of this milestone, particularly amidst a period marked by the departure of experienced officials reaching the end of their tenure within the organization. Mazwi urged the newly minted Correctional Officials to embrace their roles with dedication, highlighting their responsibility to positively represent the DCS within the communities they serve.

“This day marks a significant milestone in your careers as you assume the mantle of Correctional Officials,” Mazwi declared during the ceremony. “I charge you with upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, as you embark on your journey to effect positive change within our correctional facilities.”

Following the ceremony, the newly appointed Correctional Officials will be deployed across various Correctional Centres within the jurisdiction of the Kokstad Management Area. Their mandate extends beyond mere oversight, encompassing a commitment to rehabilitation and the promotion of positive social change within South Africa’s correctional system.
