The flight, en route to Cape Town, experienced damage to one of its rear tyres during the initial stages of departure. Ground staff at O.R. Tambo International Airport identified the issue and promptly notified the flight crew, prompting the decision to return to Johannesburg as a precautionary measure.

Despite the damaged tyre, the flight crew expertly managed the situation, ensuring a smooth and safe landing upon arrival at the airport. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew onboard.

Jabulani Khambule, Regional General Manager, commended the FlySafair pilots and crew for their professionalism and adept handling of the emergency. Their extensive training and experience played a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of all individuals aboard the aircraft.

ACSA advises travelers that one of the runways at O.R. Tambo International Airport will remain closed for the next few hours as a result of the incident. Consequently, flight operations will be impacted, leading to potential delays. Passengers are urged to liaise directly with their respective airlines for the most up-to-date information regarding their flights.

ACSA extends sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by the situation. The safety and well-being of passengers remain the utmost priority, and all necessary measures are being taken to minimize disruptions and facilitate a swift return to normal operations.
