On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, Mayor Mngenela handed over contractors to spearhead the electrification project for Fobane and Matolong infills & extensions. Approximately 140 households in Ward 23 are set to benefit from this initiative, joining the 29,475 households already using energy for cooking, as indicated by the 2022 Census in Matatiele.

Mayor Mngenela acknowledged the prevailing service delivery challenges faced by Matatiele but affirmed the ongoing efforts to enhance the lives of residents. In his pursuit of building better communities and leaving no one behind, he shared the Council’s vision of transforming Matatiele into a construction site, fostering job creation, and combatting poverty. The electrification project is slated for completion within the next six months, leading to the creation of temporary jobs.

Accompanied by members of the Executive Committee and the Ward Councillor, Mayor Mngenela emphasized the municipality’s commitment to inclusive development and improved living conditions.

Continuing the momentum on November 8, 2023, a contractor was appointed for Motsekoa 382 in Ward 27, extending the electrification drive to encompass more households in the region.

Demonstrating a caring and responsive government, the Executive Committee visited eMitshatshaneni Primary School in response to allegations of students falling ill after consuming items from a local shop. In a commitment to ensure the health and safety of the community, inspectors from the Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) will be dispatched to assess all local shops across Matatiele.
