The Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety, led by MEC Xolile Nqatha, held a major Community Safety Imbizo today in Ngqayi, Tlokoeng, under the Elundini Local Municipality. The event brought together SAPS, CPF structures and traditional leaders to address crime, GBVF and substance abuse in the area.

The Imbizo formed part of the province’s Social Crime Prevention Awareness Campaign.
Stakeholders focused on improving neighbourhood watch structures, encouraging stronger reporting of crime and condemning rising cases of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
Representing the Joe Gqabi District Municipality Executive Mayor Unathi Hlathuka praised local safety structures for their joint efforts.
“These partnerships are the backbone of sustainable crime prevention,” she said.
Official Response

During the event, the MEC handed over safety materials, including:
- 70 blankets
- 38 bags
- 10 two-way radios
- 20 torches
The equipment was delivered to the Ngqayi peace committee to support community patrols and local safety work.
