Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Seiso Mohai, led an oversight visit to Mthatha on 20 August 2025 to assess the progress of disaster relief interventions. He was joined by Deputy Minister for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, MEC for Human Settlements Siphokazi Lusithi, and Executive Mayor of KSD Municipality, Cllr Nyaniso Melani.
The visit formed part of government’s commitment to monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions aimed at supporting communities affected by recent disasters in the area. According to the officials, progress has been recorded in several key areas, including temporary housing, relocation of families, allocation of funding, and strengthened collaboration between government departments and stakeholders.
The KSD Municipality is working hand-in-hand with provincial and national departments to restore damaged infrastructure and deliver services to residents. Government leaders emphasised that relief measures were not only focused on immediate needs but also on long-term recovery and rebuilding.
Deputy Minister Mohai praised the efforts of local authorities and called for continued cooperation to ensure that affected families regain stability and dignity. Residents were assured that further updates on the implementation of disaster relief programmes will be communicated as work continues.
