Six family members of Deputy Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga have lost their lives in a road accident on the N11 in KwaZulu-Natal. Chikunga’s son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren died in the accident on Sunday night. A sedan and a bakkie were believed to have been involved in the collision.
The Department of Transport confirmed it in a statement on Tuesday.
“The family of the Deputy Minister was traveling on the N11 between Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal where it is believed that they met with a car accident between a van and a sedan,” said the department.
Chikunga, added the transport department, was travelling to KwaZulu-Natal to identify the remains of her loved ones and get to the bottom of the accident.
